Srimukalingam
lies on the banks of Vamsadhara River in Srikakulam District and is 48 KM
north of Srikakulam town. It was erstwhile capital of Ganga Kings.
Major point of attraction here
is the Sri Mukhalingeswara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Aniyanka
Bhimeswara and Someswara temples built in the Orissa Style of Architecture.
Srimukhalingeswara Temple is one among the favored Shiva temples, is found
at Srimukhalingam. Srimukhalingam is one among the renowned Hindu
pilgrimage centers in Andhra Pradesh. Sri Mukhalingam was additional capital
of eastern Ganga kings of Kalinga
(ancient Orissa). The Srimukalingam Temple of Srimukhalingam was built by Kamarnava II in 8th century AD of the eastern Ganga family line.
Its lovely place set on the banks of river Vamsadhara. Mukhalingeswara, Bhimeswara and Someswara
and all these temples show evidence of the Orissa style of
architecture (Indo - Aryan style). Sri
Mukhalingam is one of the famous Hindu pilgrimage centers in Andhra Pradesh.
