Araku is one of the most important tourist destinations in Andhra Pradesh. Araku is popular for its famous coffee plantations. India’s first tribal growers’ organic coffee brand was launched in the Araku Valley in 2007. The premium organic "Araku Emerald" brand of coffee sells globally.
The journey to Araku valley on the Eastern Ghats with thick forest on either sides is itself highly interesting and pleasant. The Botanical Garden at Padmapuram, Government Silk Farm with Mulberry gardens are the live examples to know the socio-economic conditions of the area. Tribal Museum is a big attraction of the Araku. Chaaparai, a beautiful place about 15 km from Araku is another picnic spot in this region. One must experience the climatic conditions and the natural beauty of this Valley. The natural beauty of this valley comes alive with the aboriginal tribes who dwell here and who have to this day kept their tradition and culture alive. About 19 tribes inhabit this area. The Dhimsa dance, an age-old folk dance normally performed during 'Itikala Pongal' is now offered in tourist's packages everyday.
BORRA CAVES
The Borra Caves are also known as Borra Guhalu. Borra means something that has bored into the ground and ‘guhalu’ means caves, are located on the East Coast of India, in the Ananthagiri hills of the Araku valley. Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh. The Caves ,are one of the largest in the country.
The caves are located in the Araku Valley of the Ananthagiri hill range and is drained by the Gosthani River. The average annual temperature of Araku hills, where the caves are situated, is about 25 °C .
Transportation
By Air: Nearest Airport Visakhapatnam.
By Train: The train journey over a distance of 100 km from the Visakhapatnam Railway station passes through Eastern Ghats hills, which has 30 tunnels en route.
By Road: From Visakhapatnam, 112 km by road, which is mostly a hill road and the journey takes about 3 hours
Katiki Waterfalls,
Katiki Waterfalls,
Katiki waterfalls, which originates at the
Ghostani River, is situated 4 km away from the Borra Caves enroute Araku
Valley. Tourists need to cover 100 steps and 2 km long trek amidst the thick
greens to reach Katiki waterfalls. But it is worth every ounce of energy spent.
Splashing in the cool water of this perennial waterfall or climbing up to, the
child like joy of playing in water and beauty of the scene overwhelms you. The waterfall is about 50 ft high and lies around 4 km
away from Borra Caves.
