History: Kapila Maha Muni has installed the idol of Somalingeswara Swamy and thus the name – Kapilakonda has come. Formerly fisher men used to live in those places and
they called it Apilakonda which is gradually changed over the ages to Apillakonda and further to Appikonda, at the coast of the Bay of Bengal..Lord Shiva is the
presiding deity here, this temple is also called Appikonda Temple, contains inscriptions dating back to 12th Century AD,
which states that the village was granted by the commander-in-chief of the
Chodas.The shrine contains a life-size image of colossal Nandi carved out of
a single black stone, is a major attraction for the tourists.
Festival: Mahashivaratri is celebrated is one of the
major festival performed with devotion.
